Greetings from Denver!
Hello Bowdoin Dems! Our delegation has arrived and the College Democrats Convention has begun. Today, we had a panel discussion concerning student activism and coordinating with the Obama campaign. There were several other events as well, such as the inaugural veteran’s caucus, where delegates heard from an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran, as well as our very own Alex Cornell du Houx. Issues covered included knowledge of the military, contractors and their relationship to the troops, and how to unite progressive values with military values.
A speech by Gov. Howard Dean highlighted the opening ceremonies. Dean, currently the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and the former governor of Vermont, spoke of the need for youth action in the upcoming election, the importance of neighbor-to-neighbor contacts, and possibilities for change that this election presents.
We are excited about the week ahead, and hope to update this blog frequently with news and highlights from the convention. We are working on posting photos; some technical problems have occurred.
Check back frequently!
